Xth.exe is a freely downloadable software package for students of SSC of Maharashtra state board for solving mathematics problems. Please download xth.exe here. It was popular among many students of tenth standard students of pune at some time four years ago. But it has probably outlived it's purpose by now.
More detailed technical specifications for the XTH software package are given here. Please view them if you are a developer or technical person. It is the only software package in existence which offers problem solving capabilities without containing any pre-programmed problems. It will solve any problem that you type in. Everything is solved on the fly, in front of you and in the format required by the syllabus of the SSC board. See for yourself! No commercial CD-ROM offers this capability as of yet. They provide solved problems. What do you do in case you have a problem which you cannot solve? Get them solved with XTH! No false commitments. It is available for free. You can download and see and judge for yourself. You may want to view technical specifications of XTH or a more detailed description of the current downloadable version.
XTH was developed to prove that computers are more than just VCR's or audio cassette players with the ability to jump to the track of your choice. They can compute (as if we don't already know that). But as I saw around me, they were used as tape players to read material which is contained in text-books or to view videos which can be watched on television. XTH was intended to redefine the term interactive educational software. The developer of XTH works on many such unusal software.

XTH was a project of mine when I was 17 years old, so it is as good as dead now. I dont think I'll ever re-visit the XTH issue although my interest in computer-based educational software is not entirely dead. Perhaps when I can afford it, I'll hire some people to do stuff since my personal life is too intense to work on XTH at least for a couple of decades. Do visit my homepage to find out about stuff that I'm currently working on. It is unlikely that I'll be updating this website for at least a couple of years from now. So all information about XTH or any updates on my personal life may only be found on my homepage.
For all practical purposes, XTH is open source. Just mail me for it and I'll send you a CD containing the source code at a nominal cost. It's good for newbies to mathematical programming to check out how problem solving programs are written. This is meant for very elementary 10-12 year old programmers. Please do send me a nice mail once in a while if you get a chance. It's nice to know that old projects are still being used somewhere out there.
